Caravaggio 1571-1610

These two paintings face each other in a small…oh so small chapel, in the Cerasi Chapel, Santa Maria del Popolo, Rome. We entered the tiny room that couldn’t have been more than 10 ft. across and fumbled for the light in the dark. When the light went on these 2 huge paintings…maybe 6ft high…it was a long time ago but the impression…Wow. The light only stayed on for like 2 minutes and then we had to fumble again for the light. In order to see one painting we had to stand against the other one! So worth the visit. So breathtaking! Caravaggio. If you don’t know about him it’s worth a read.
