Artist of the Day- Dame Laura Knight (click on image for more)

Knight was born in Britain in 1870 and lived to 1970. She made a living as an artist which was fairly remarkable for a woman in the early 1900s. She painted portraits and worked for the government during WWII doing commissioned work towards the war effort. 1. is a self portrait with nude...she's painting the nude! Shocking at the time as in art school she hadn't been allowed to paint nudes. 2. is her emotional take on the Nuremberg Trials after WWII. She painted dancers, gypsies and circus performers too! Such a varied career!
