Take control of your pictures! This course completely covers the operation of 35mm cameras, film developing and darkroom printing. Students will learn composition, lighting, selective focus and speed shooting. As a student you will learn how to print and present black and white photographs. A 35mm camera with manual options is required.

Digital photography has many advantages over traditional film photography. Digital photos are convenient, allow you to see the results instantly, don't require the costs of film and developing, and are suitable for software editing and uploading to the Internet. While shooting on film will always have a place in the world of photography, digital models have taken over the consumer camera market almost completely. If you own or are planning to buy a digital camera, this class will take you beyond point-and-shoot and help you get more out of it.
Darkroom Open Studio

This open studio is designed for people who know their way around a darkroom. We have an eight station darkroom and developing lab. All chemistry is included, but paper and all other items must be provided by the student. No instruction provided but guidance is provided by master printer, Kimball-Jenkins/NHTI photography professor, Scott Bulger.

This class will explore the historical precedence of abstract painting, reducing reality based imagery to its basic terms. Cubism, expressionism, abstract expressionism, minimalism and geometric abstraction will be coved. Students will work from the still-life and from items of their choice. Acrylic paint is the medium of choice, however students wishing to use oils will be permitted to do so.

In this class we will combine painterly and sculptural techniques to create relief and hollow ceramic compositions for walls. All hand building techniques - pinch slab, coil, and extrusion will be demonstrated and utilized in the development of three dimensional forms and surfaces. Your completed glazed fired works will range from a few inches to about one square foot.

Called the “Yankee Zen Master of Wood” and natural story teller, Dan hips you to the “Way of the Woodshed” (split, hew and shave) that has made him America ’s leading advocate of “let nature speak.” Create utterly unique handcrafted spoons. Students will learn to split, hew and shave wood, which is selectively gathered and prepared. The students’ spoons will be fired in beeswax and oil for a unique finish. These objects of art are one of a kind!

This course will introduce students to the techniques of Manga and Anime (Japanese animation) illustration. You will learn the basic styles of Manga and practice them with someone who has comic industry experience. Students will also learn the guidelines that separate Manga from its other comic counterparts, as well as learn how to move from simple character illustration to drawing full comic pages.
