This workshop will meet at Kimball Jenkins on Tuesday, and at an off site location in Barnstead on Wednesday, and back at Kimball Jenkins on Thursday.  This is a bit of a different twist but will allow students a chance to paint on location and have access to some water views.  The first day at Kimball Jenkins, students will learn about and practice techniques for painting the elements of the summer landscape.  The second day, students will meet at Barnstead (directions will be given - about 35 minutes from Concord), and there will be an on site demonstration and then students will paint on site and take photos.  There will be options to work from a deck, a sun porch, and a studio that all have nice views for those who are not comfortable working outside.  On Thursday, students will meet back at Kimball Jenkins and work from their watercolor studies and photos to complete a larger, more finished painting.  Students should have some prior experience with watercolor.
Please feel free to contact the instructor with any questions or concerns about this workshop.

For students with some watercolor experience.

Figure drawing and painting is the benchmark of all serious artists. It incorporates the best of draftsmanship and craftsmanship, and it takes great skill, training and practice to master. In this class we will study the figure. You will spend two days studying technical drawing with master artist Ian Torney and two days painting with the famous Sylvia Brofos.  Seeing the painting as a "whole" to maintain unity will be stressed. Value relationships, spatial relationships, artistic anatomy, color harmonies, mass to detail relationships, form, atmospheric perspective, edges, and planes will be explored.

In this workshop, students will learn about using harmonious and balanced color in the watercolor landscape and will explore using color to create a mood as well as using color as a way of enhancing the design of a painting. We will look at some successful color schemes and explore various ways to  infuse more color into the painting process. Students may have the opportunity to work outside part of the time if they desire. Demonstrations will be given daily and students will practice some new techniques and then apply them to creating a finished watercolor landscape.  Students should have some prior experience with watercolor. For any questions or concerns, students may contact the instructor, Becky Darling rdarling@conknet.com or call at 456-3523.
