Speaker Donna Miller & Charlie Cole

Topic: The Decline of the Monarch Butterfly and what you can do about it

The Monarch butterfly, once a common sight during late summer in NH, is on the decline. What's behind their decreasing population and how can we help them? Donna Miller, a gardener and educator from Petals in the Pines in Canterbury, will discuss their life cycle, the annual migration to Mexico, how to find them in the wild, what they need for survival, and how we can easily create a habitat for monarchs in our own back yard.
Donna Miller is from Petals in the Pines, a diverse garden operation in Canterbury, where she maintains 20 theme gardens. Donna is a citizen scientist for Monarch Watch and helps with the tracking of monarchs during their fall migration.
Charlie Cole from Cole Gardens will be discussing how we can plant annuals, perennials and shrubs to attract pollinators such as Honey Bees, Humming Birds and Butterflies to our gardens. This lecture will help us beautify our outdoor spaces while we help attract pollinators.
