Tarsila do Amaral known as Tarsila was considered to be one of the leading modernist painters of Brazil. She studied in Spain and later visited Paris where she was introduced to Cubism, Futurism and Expressionism. On her return to Sao Paolo she really began her career in a period when women were not encouraged to work. She had the support always of her progressive, well off family.
