David Hockney’s perhaps most famous painting, Portrait of an Artist, just sold for $90.3 million dollars. Really? Is this reasonable? Are there not starving people throughout the world who could better benefit from that amount of money? I’m a big fan of David Hockney and his work. This has nothing to do with him as the painting has been bought and sold many times… and I know he’s not much interested in money… but I find it troubling none-the-less that a work of art should gain this kind of artificial value.
