Beginners 2 - Leveling up Wheel Throwing with Wren

Date:
Wednesdays • April 1 - June 3 | 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Ages: Attendee must be older than 16 years old
Location: Ceramics Studio

A Level 2 Beginner Wheel Throwing class is designed for students who have completed an introductory course or have some basic experience on the wheel and are ready to build confidence and consistency. This class bridges the gap between beginner and intermediate levels by reinforcing foundational skills- such as centering, pulling, shaping, and trimming- while introducing new techniques that support greater control and intentional making.

Students will focus on improving form, refining wall thickness, and developing an understanding of proportion and timing at the wheel. Instruction will include demonstrations on how to make more refined functional forms such as mugs, bowls, and simple handled pieces, as well as strategies for troubleshooting common challenges. Surface decoration and glazing approaches will also be explored to help students thoughtfully finish their work.

While technical growth is emphasized, students are encouraged to pursue their own ideas and begin developing a personal approach to making. This class provides a supportive environment to practice skills, ask questions, and gain comfort working more independently in the studio. Ideal for those who are ready to move beyond the basics, Level 2 Beginners offers the opportunity to strengthen technique, expand knowledge, and prepare for intermediate-level work. Some experience is encouraged. Students are not required to purchase their own tools, everything needed will be provided. One 25 lb bag of clay is included and more is available for purchase within the studio.
