Daily Abstraction with Bob Dorr (8 weeks)
NOTE: There is no class on Monday, April 27
No drawing or painting experience required for this class!
In this adventurous 8-week class, students will be introduced to abstract art in a tangible way by creating a finished abstract work of art by the end of each class. Students will begin with a short seated warm up, and Bob will provide a daily creative prompt and reference images. Students will start with a chalk or soft pastel sketch and work with that as the base for your piece. You will then layer watercolor and gouache on top, setting each layer with a spray of fixative. Then the fun begins as you work to embellish and mutate your image until it is abstracted. At the end of each class, students will leave with a finished abstract work of art.
Note: there will be some fumes due to the fixative being used. For anyone with asthma or breathing issues, please bring a mask.
Supplies:
-
Metallic gouache set (optional, but encouraged)
-
Hairdryer
-
Mask (if you’re sensitive to fixative sprays)
Additional supplies will be provided by the instructor.
