Coptic Bound Junk Journal Workshop (one day) - 4/18

Date:
Saturday • April 18 | 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Ages: Attendee must be older than 18 years old

Have you ever wanted to learn Coptic binding?  Are you trying to figure out what to do with some of your unused art, old letters, or miscellaneous paper? This is the workshop for that!  In this one-day workshop, we will be making Coptic Bound Junk Journals.  What’s a junk journal, you may ask. This is a book filled with mostly recycled papers, old artwork, or whatever you have on hand.

The purpose of this workshop is to learn the single-needle Coptic stitch, and we will also discuss how to do a multi-needle Coptic stitch.  You will be supplied with everything you need to make the journal, and in the end, you will have a fun book, just as it is, or something you can add to at home with journaling, collage, painting, or whatever you desire. If you do have papers you'd like to incorporate into the book, please ensure they are at least 5" tall x 8" or longer.   If you don’t have any papers to recycle, I will have all the paper you need for the book.

Supplies:

  • metal ruler
  • 12” x 18” cutting mat
  • a bone folder
  • a pencil
  • an awl
  • Ex-acto knife or utility knife
  • If you do not have any of these tools, please do not purchase them. I will have extras you will be able to use.
  • Bring a lunch and something to drink to help you get through the day.
  • Supply Fee:  There is a $30 material fee payable to the instructor at the time of the workshop for additional supplies provided. Got questions about supplies or this workshop? Email instructor Anne McMillan at 2amcmillan@gmail.com.
