Writing and Drawing En Plein Air with Jocelyn Winn (one-day) - 5/23
This twist on painting from the outdoors is geared toward writers of all levels. Students will head outside with sketchbook and notebook to explore the grounds of the Kimball Jenkins estate and nearby Horseshoe Pond. After keenly observing their surroundings, students can produce both visual and written depictions on-site. For writers, thinking and recording visually can enhance sensorial elements of setting such as tonal shifts, movement, mood, and time. Experimenting with expressing scenes visually also taps into the imagery of themes, characterization, and conflict, all of which can work toward creating prose and poetry that move beyond the page. Students might choose to combine their visual and written observations or use each to inform the other.
Supplies: Students are welcome to bring anything portable, such as mini watercolors, pastels, charcoal, pencils, notebooks, etc. We’ll have time at the end to share our field study experiences.

Kimball Jenkins' 5-week classes are designed to be continuous. This means you can continue to the next session's class if you want to keep mastering your skill of choice - or you can pick a new 5-week class to try! Got questions about classes?
