Exploring Art of Ancient Egypt for Ages 8-12 with Meagan Doffing - Spring 2
This fascinating Egyptian art class introduces students to the vibrant, symbolic world of the Nile Valley, focusing on stylized human figures, vibrant tempera colors, and storytelling through art. Art activities will include creating cartouches with hieroglyphics, drawing and painting on papyrus, and designing masks. Students will discover their use of symbolism and color, the unique Egyptian style of depicting human figures, Hieroglyphics and storytelling, and exploring the importance of pharaohs, gods, and the afterlife in art creation. Students will be using tempera paint and oil pastels to simulate carving and painting techniques found in tombs. Students will have the opportunity to create Cartouche Name Tags, a Sarcophagus out of modeling clay, and a Profile Portrait in the traditional Egyptian profile style. This introduction helps students connect with a historically rich, highly stylized form of art through hands-on, engaging projects.
Supplies: Supplies will be provided by the teacher.
