Kimball Jenkins is a nonprofit community cultural center that proactively recruits and welcomes people with many diverse and marginalized identities, as the best strategy to fully meet the mission of our organization. Kimball Jenkins serves the community with the mission to cultivate creativity, make arts education accessible, and honor historic preservation. By intentionally creating a safe place for people who are BIPOC, LGBTQ+, neurodivergent, disabled, and across the spectrum of life’s stages, we are able to be truly responsive and reflect the people in the community that we serve.

Our efforts are contributing to local and state goals of increasing economic development in the region by creating cultural programming that will attract a diverse workforce to the state. With this intentional focus of inclusivity, we contribute to improved environments that affect a wide range of health, functioning, and quality of life outcomes. We are continuously working to improve accessibility in all its facets, from the physical, economic, to social-removing barriers such as transportation, and the creation of safe and inclusive spaces.

Evolving & Ongoing Strategies:

Be a proactive ally for the inclusion of historically marginalized community members in cultural opportunities, and be a partner to other organizations working to create safe and equitable communities.

Actively recruit people with diverse backgrounds and perspectives as employees, faculty, volunteers, committee members, Board members, attendees, and collaborators.

Ensure all youth learn and engage with educators and staff of diverse identities, to counter the under-representation of artists and leaders of color in educational programs.

Actively create a safe place for BIPOC, disabled, LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent community members to engage in the arts and history. Deepen knowledge through consistent training on how we can reduce harmful language and actions.

Build authentic relationships that attract historically marginalized community members to participate in the creation of programming, and be reflected as artists and leaders.
