Glaze 101 - Workshop

Date:
Friday • January 2 | 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Ages: Attendee must be older than 18 years old
Location: Ceramics Studio

Glazing is more than just a finishing touch—it’s a crucial part of the ceramics process that affects durability, aesthetics, and kiln safety. In this hands-on workshop, we’ll break down the basics of glaze chemistry, explore how glazes interact at cone 6, and discuss why understanding glazing is essential for protecting both your work and studio equipment.
During this 2 day workshop, students will learn about the science of glaze, breakdown a glaze recipe, analyze the differences between underglazes, slips, premixed bottle glazes, and dip glazes. Finally, students will make various test tiles with a variety of glazes. The first class (Friday December 19th) will be the bulk of the learning and conversation, and the second (Friday January 2nd) will be focused on reviewing the results of the firing.
