Intro to the View Camera with Gary Samson - Summer

The view camera has been used for almost two hundred years to create iconic landscape, portrait and architectural images around the world. This three weekend workshop will introduceparticipants to the 4x5 inch view camera and the use of the camera’s perspective controls to create high quality images. Participants will expose and develop black and white sheet film, and contact prints and digital enlargements from the resulting negatives. Equipment options will be discussed and demonstrated, and a brief history of major figures in photographic history using the view camera will be presented including Carleton Watkins, Julia Margaret Cameron, Paul Strand, Dorothea Lange, Ansel Adams and Sally Mann.
