Hand Building with Wren

Date:
Mondays • March 30 - June 1 | 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Ages: Attendee must be older than 16 years old
Location: Ceramics Studio

Beginner classes are designed to introduce students to all the essential skills, tools, and procedures of the ceramics studio in a supportive and welcoming environment. Students will learn the foundational techniques of wheel throwing, including centering clay, pulling walls, shaping forms, and trimming finished pieces. The class focuses on developing comfort and confidence at the potter’s wheel while exploring classic forms such as bowls, mugs, and simple vessels. Alongside technical instruction, students are encouraged to follow their own interests and experiment creatively, rather than working toward a prescribed set of final projects. Basic surface decoration, glazing processes, and studio practices such as proper cleanup and kiln etiquette will also be introduced. This course is intended for beginner-level pottery students—those with little or no prior experience working with clay—and emphasizes patience, practice, and skill-building. In addition to scheduled class sessions, students have access to the studio to practice independently, allowing time to reinforce new skills, explore ideas, and develop a personal connection to the material at their own pace. No prior experience is necessary, and students are not required to purchase their own tools—everything needed will be provided. One 25 lb bag of clay is included and more is available for purchase within the studio.
