Drawing the Landscape: Up Close and Far Away with Joe Montroy (4 weeks) - Spring 2

Date:
Thursdays • May 7 - June 4 | 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Ages: Attendee must be older than 18 years old

This landscape drawing class is an invitation to slow down, look closely, and draw the places around us. The course is open to adults of all experience levels, I welcome beginners and anyone looking to expand their practice. No previous drawing experience is needed to begin engaging with the landscape. We will explore realistic, and abstract approaches to drawing the landscape using graphite, charcoal, and water color pencil to explore different ways of working with land, light, space, and atmosphere. We’ll draw from photographs and from life, including onsite and plein air drawing when possible.

We’ll look at both familiar and unexpected landscapes—small oases tucked into everyday places, industrial edges, and shifts between micro and macro views of place. Each week will include short slide presentations featuring artists who approach landscape in varied and inventive ways. Class time balances guided instruction with plenty of space to draw, talk, and work alongside others, making this a supportive studio environment for building a regular drawing practice and sharing ideas.
