What the Heck is This? A Look at Art from Impressionism to Today with Inez McDermott (4 weeks) - Spring 1

Date:
Wednesdays • April 1 - April 29 | 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm
Ages: Attendee must be older than 16 years old

Note: there is no class on April 8

Modern art has often evoked strong reactions: confusion, anger, comfort, insight, and inspiration. This course traces major art movements in Europe and North America from the mid-nineteenth century through the late twentieth century. We will examine major artists and their works in relation to their cultural and historical contexts, and we will explore why these movements were considered so controversial in their own time. We’ll also discuss how those ideas continue to shape and energize contemporary art practice today. No previous knowledge of art or art history is required.

Supplies: no supplies are required for this class (a notebook and pen for notetaking is completely optional). There may be short optional readings that will be available electronically.

Ages 16-Adult: $120.00
