This class is thoughtfully designed for students ages 10-14

Come learn to carve a spoon from a tree! In this 5-week class, we will have the opportunity to make several spoons and small bowls from branches foraged from the woods. This class will focus on gaining skills with two main tools of spoon carving – the sloyd (straight) knife and the hook knife. We will explore wood grain, how to carve a smooth bowl, learn different strokes and maintenance for each knife, and learn how to care for your body while carving. We will carve a small cooking spoon, a tea spoon, some weird curvy branch spoons, and a few small salt bowls.

Students will leave the class with several spoons, a salt bowl or three, and the empowerment to continue learning and making things out of wood. Spoons will be in various states of completion when students leave class. This is a great class for beginners, as well as for folks who have done some carving and want to brush up/reengage!

No supplies are needed for this class - your instructor will provide everything!
