Botanical Papermaking Workshop with Mary Mead (3-day)
Botanical Papermaking Workshop with Mary Mead (3-day)
Tuesday-Thursday | Spring 2 | June 3, 4, 5
10am-3pm
Printmaking Studio
Dive deep into this three-day workshop with KJ faculty Mary Mead as we learn how to make paper from plants and embrace the beautiful alchemy of transforming nature into exquisite handmade paper.
Bring along an assortment of plants from your own garden, garden remnants, or wild flora. Together, we’ll embark on a fascinating process, first extracting the rich fibers and removing any acidic elements to create a luscious pulp. With this newfound material, you’ll learn to craft stunning sheets of paper using traditional moulds and deckles provided by our expert instructor.
Once your sheets are formed, we’ll couch and transfer them to cotton linter sheets for outdoor drying, allowing nature to work its magic.
This is a workshop for all levels of papermakers. If you’re interested in venturing beyond the basics by exploring experimental techniques such as paper casting unique surfaces like skunk cabbage or plaster molds, we invite you to reach out to Mary at mary@kimballjenkins.com prior to the start of your workshop.
