In this 4-week class, students will explore collage making with a purpose. Each class will have a theme related to the journey of healing wounds within us through the creative process. Students will use a broad range of materials to create their own pieces to bring home each week (4 separate canvas pieces in total).

First week: ‘Reconnecting with Myself’ - This will be a self portrait using photos, drawings, or even collage to create an image of ourselves, adding anything that makes us who we are.

Second week: ‘My loss (losses)’ - Here, we represent difficult feelings on our piece through colors, shapes, textures and/or symbols connected to our own unique experience. The use of specific images becomes optional as this part of the series can be emotionally challenging for some.

Third week: ‘Pick me uppers’ - On this week, we’ll honor what sparked our inner light to help us cope with difficult times. For this portion of the series, we combine the many materials offered in our class. Have fun with paper, fabric, books, soft pastels, pressed flowers/plants, wood, trinkets and many other unexpected objects.

Fourth week: ‘What I Walked Away With’ - For our final work together, we get to revisit how we transformed pain from loss into gratitude. Inspiration for this piece can come from a past experience or a current event, or really, anything we want to express gratitude for.

Supplies will be provided by instructor.
