Pottery Bowl Weaving with Jean Reed (Summer 1)

$175.00

Wednesdays | 4:30-7:30pm | Summer 1 | 3-week course | 7/9, 7/16, 7/23

Printmaking Studio, Yellow House

This class is intended for ages 18+

Exquisite hand-thrown pottery bowls act as the base for creative and free-form weaving. Using dyed and natural reed, fibers and seagrass, you will construct your basket with twining and tapestry techniques. Rim styles will be discussed and how to finish your basket.

Students will have several pattern and color choices. Some embellishments will be available, but I urge you to bring feathers, beads, buttons, and other items along to personalize your basket. No two pieces of pottery are alike and all are unique. Bowls vary in size but can be 3-4” wide, 4- 6” high, and 4-6” in diameter. Your actual basket measurements will vary according to how you weave it.

This class is appropriate for beginner basket makers and challenging enough for the experienced weaver.

Supplies: Students should bring scissors, an unused spray bottle, and a hand towel. All other materials will be provided by the instructor. Also, please bring feathers, beads, buttons, and other items along to personalize your basket (optional). Feel free to contact Jean at murrayhillweaving@gmail.com with any questions about this class.
