This is just the beginning in the world of Junk Journals. Start here, and we’ll talk about other types of books you can create! The word “junk” means old, discarded, or useless, and a junk journal is a book meant to put sentimental “junk” papers, memorabilia, and ephemera all in one place. The focus of this class is to create a journal using old book covers that have been prepared for you and filling them with interesting papers, ephemera, and personal items you have been saving at home.

Are you saving old concert tickets, plane tickets, a few photos from a unique vacation, your children’s report cards, special letters, etc? Now is the time to dedicate a journal for yourself or a special person in your life and add these items.

In this class, you will begin by collaging your journal covers. Secondly, you will fill your book with all sorts of pages and papers. I will help you create pockets, belly bands, and tuck spots. Finally you will fill the blank spaces with your own personal handwritten notes. Your journal will be secured with book rings so that you can add or delete to your pages.

Supplies: Bring scissors, a ruler, colored pencils (optional), rubber stamps (optional), old family photos, letters, greeting cards, feathers you found on the path, report cards, special buttons, etc. All other materials to make your journal are included in the class fee. Feel free to contact Jean at murrayhillweaving@gmail.com with questions.
